Plagiarized B.C. Election Notes

The Green Party has released their platform, as has the NDP

I haven't had a chance to look at them yet, but ainge, over at lotusland has a look at the Green platform, and Sacha at Double Blind has some comments on the NDP.

Best line from ainge (on taxing junk food): "the civil libertarian inside me screams, 'let them eat cake' but ultimately, this platform does need to be financed, so let's make teenagers and fat people pick up the tab."

Now that's pragmatism!

Best line from Sacha (on the large picture of Carole James on the front of the NDP platform): "Whoever put that picture there needs to learn that you need to make sure the entire face is lit, since the shadows on the left hand side make her seem ominous and scary." (it's true).

Sacha's also on the lookout for a copy of the 2001 B.C. NDP platform (don't look at me, I didn't even live in B.C. then!) in case you have an electronic version lying around on your hard drive (or know where to find it online).

  • this is quite an honourable place to be mentioned! i think people should definitely read the green platform. unlike the microscopic characters that might be ascii art which we call jstor articles, it's a pdf file with very large font, pictures, and lots of spacing. in fact, it is so unlike the other pdfs i encounter, i am so taken with its visual accessibility.

  • Extensive experience with JSTOR (or any other archive that scans journal articles and turns them into PDFs) could turn anyone off of PDF files, being as they are all grotty and look like they've been infested by moths. The Green Book (and the NDP platform) are straight from the page layout program to the PDF creation software, although they made the bitmap graphics low-quality for the web version in order to keep the download reasonably painless. That's the way PDFs are supposed to be.

(Can you tell that I'm a PDF convert?)

  • We're all about honour here at CAtO. The Green platform does look nice - I'll have to make time to actually read it at some point...

  • Declan, sorry for changing topics so arbitrarily but thought you might enjoy this post on PR.

  • No worries Tim, commenters can bring up whatever topics they like around here :)

Yeah, I saw that post (thanks to the invaluable Cavalcade of Canucks) and it was a pretty interesting read.

I may put up a post linking to it on my STV blog if I get around to it.
