Harper Joins the Elite - Class War Scandal!

Uh oh, I hope all those people who voted for the Tim Horton's-loving Conservatives against the arrogant Starbucks-frequenting elite don't see this post over at Lotusland (complete with damning picture!).

Stephen Harper a man of the people? Lies, all lies!

1 Yes, I know, you don't put lattes in bags, but really, who puts cats in bags?

  • Here's the thing about the 'Tim Horton's v. Starbucks' "debate" and why I think the conservatives, at least the more libretarian of them, should be on the side of Starbucks:

Consider that at Tim Horton's one's milk and sugar are added to the coffee by Tim's staff. Customers can, of course, ask for "a double-double" or "a regular" or "black" but the Tim's staff still regulates how much milk and sugar one gets. And most of the time if one makes a special request for amount of milk and sugar Tim's staff get huffy about their finely tuned system being thrown off.

In essence Tim Horton's represents the regulating beuracracy of the Canadian nanny state in terms of milk and sugar dispensation.

Now consider the situation at Starbucks:

Here, customers are given their coffee and left to their own devices (dare I say *freedom*) to add milk and sugar at their whim. Starbucks provides a variety of milks and creams, as well as various sugars and artifical sweeteners. Starbucks, then, represents the freedom-loving libretarianism of American consumerism.

Sure, customers pay a bit more at Starbucks, but surely, its not too high a price to pay for freedom in coffee drinking?

  • Tim Horton's as nanny-state, I hadn't thought of it that way. Good point!
