Money For Nothing
Personally, I thought $1 billion for security for the Winter Olympics was high. But spending over $1 billion to host a weekend G8/G20 summit is truly absurd. At some point the Conservative hide-under-the-bed-cause-the -terrorists-are-out-to-get-us security mania will have to give way to common sense. Right?
Instead of buying sonic cannons to attack protestors with, how about the leaders try a conference call next time and give us a transit line or a hospital instead - thanks in advance.

What are you talking about? This government has cut spending to women's groups. It is the acme of fiscal responsibility. Sigh.

Declan, you can't have a police state without sonic cannons - all the other G8 countries have them!
Even stranger is how no one seems to care about the overall economic costs to say, Toronto, which will effectively shut down for three days.
You float the idea of more paid vacations for workers and everyone's up in arms about costs to business, but you stage a giant summit and everyone shrugs and moves on...very strange.
