Becoming Better Off Without Using More Energy

In lieu of having anything interesting to say myself, I direct you to this interesting essay by John Quiggin on how we can increase our living standards in a sustainable manner.

  1. He generally seems to be advocating "decrease operational expenses by increasing capital ones."

    Just as an example, the break-even to buy a hybrid vehicle vs. the non-hybrid variety can be quantified, but doing this on a much more massive scale involves a lot more variables than I think is humanely possible to calculate with any precision.

    Just like how the first sentence in his second paragraph is still open to debate. :)
